School Transformation

AlphaMundi has been hired as an advisor to support the transformation of rural high-schools into financially viable social enterprises.
Fundación Paraguaya (FP) is a Paraguay-based social enterprise that promotes microfinance and entrepreneurship. A key activity is the transformation of rural highschools into financially self-sufficient social enterprises that provide high-quality education and achieve full graduate employment.
In 2007, the first school became financially self-sufficient after 5 years of transformational efforts, proving that the model works: 20 school-run businesses generate sufficient revenues to cover all operating costs. The school thereby combines a traditional academic curriculum with practical agricultural and entrepreneurial skills training for low-income youths.
At the 2007 Global Clinton Initiative, FP committed itself to replicate the school model with the following 10-year goals:
- Transform 50 schools
- Educate 120,000 students
- Impact 600,000 people
10 schools are on track to full self-sufficiency, 54 schools are in the pipeline and another 2,000 are members of Teach A Man To Fish, a UK-based NGO established by FP to spread this innovative rural education model.
